Dancing Through the Dark: Sylvia CAMARDA

Born into an Italian immigrant worker’s family in Luxembourg, Sylvia started her career in a professional dance school in Cannes at the age of 14. After graduating from the London Contemporay Dance School, she collaborated with several renowned artists and dance companies, such as Les ballets C de la B, Jan Fabre, Dave St. Pierre and Cirque du Soleil. She founded her own dance company in 2003 and choreographed for Magdeburger Opernhaus and the Philharmonie Luxembourg amongst others. In 2011 she was named Luxembourg’s ambassador of dance by the ministry of culture. Sylvia shares her life story as a dancer, about how she realized her dream, despite all obstacles, without doubting it, without feeling the fear of not succeeding, without thinking about the others. It’s account of how art can win over the words that hold you down. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
